GRANVILLE – Scott Hayes tries to meet as many community needs through the Look Up Center, which he founded, by providing dental care, a free dinner every Monday evening and a shop with furniture, appliances and other household items and more.

And Monday night Hayes was recognized for his efforts. Hayes was honored at the Behavioral Healthcare Partners of Central Ohio life-saving service awards with the John Kozak Award for the services the Look Up Center, which Hayes founded, provides to the Licking County area.

Hayes said it’s great to be honored for his work. He was also surprised to be honored because he said others in the community deserve the award as well.

“We live in a community with so many caring and generous people. I’m sure they had a long list of folks that could have been selected for that,” he said. “It’s very humbling.”

Cheryl Hohl, who nominated Hayes for the award, said she nominated Hayes because the Look Up Center does so much to help people in Licking County.

The winner of the award is usually someone outside of BHP and is a person who do lots of work to help the community.

“He just helps a lot of people, a lot of people in our community and the clients at BHP,” Hohl said. “It’s just a valuable service to our community.”

Hayes said he tries to look at the unmet needs in the community so the Look Up Center doesn’t duplicate services provided by another organization.

“I try to look at what are the true, heartfelt needs and then do we have the means and resources to fill them.”

Hayes was not the only one honored at the ceremony held on the Denison University campus. Linda Camelo, a staff member at BHP, was honored with BHP’s in house Robert W. Partridge Award for her service.

Connie McMurrin, a counselor with BHP, accepted the Best of Newark Award for Personal Services for BHP Work/Life Solutions program, which was given to the program from an outside organization.
