Read a testimonial about this support group written by participant Donna Lee:
“I am a member of the Art Journaling class at the Main Place and the Adult Survivors of Sexual Abuse support group at Mental Health America. I am also a member of AA and NA. I wandered into The Main Place with my husband for a drumming circle. I had just begun to take my sobriety seriously after 20 years of failing to sponsor myself. I found the Art Journaling class first and a flyer taped to a window about S.C.S.A. I began to attend the journaling on a somewhat regular basis. I have always loved art and was convinced I needed to be high to do it. My eyes began to open. I took notes at AA meetings and began drawing cartoons of people who were sharing or texting through the meetings. I began to really notice changes in my life and how I looked at myself and my sobriety. I knew I had to reach out to Shari for help with the trauma of being raised by a pedophile. It was the root of my addictions. My life truly changed when I found that group. Today, I have 2 years, 7 months and 5 days sober, 4 paintings going at the same time and paint in my hair. I’ve never been happier. Thank you Shari! I love you all.”
